Dare to ask really anything and don't let the final exam drive you crazy!

Meet Nieke! She has been working with us for two years now as Tutor and primarily tutors final exam candidates. Get to know her better, read why acknowledging mistakes is important and take advantage of her most important tip for the final exam.

Who are you? What do you do in daily life?

My name is Nieke. I finished my bachelor law last year and I am currently studying European and Dutch Law , so I am following 2 Masters.

What do you do at Studied?

At Studied I am Tutor, I mainly support high school students in passing their final exams, but also teach students who are not yet in their exam year. At the moment I actively teach math, geography and German, but I can also support students with Dutch or English.

What subject do you enjoy teaching the most?

I actually like languages the most, so English, Dutch and German. My studies are all about precise wording, so language is very important to me. I like to help students understand better.

What do you love about teaching at Studied?

I get happy from helping students and seeing that the counseling is effective. In addition, I find it super fun to relive what high school was like through the students. After all, I always had a great time there.

What do most students struggle with?

Mostly acknowledge what goes wrong and focus on preventing that mistake from being made again. Often, it is not necessarily necessary to put more time into a trade, but to use the time differently.

How do you ensure that your students progress?

Each lesson we look together at what is most important at that moment. Is that practice, or are there gaps in the understood material that need to be closed first. Thus, we cover both old and new material.

What is your most important tip for students?

"Dare to ask really anything." Of course, teachers at school say that too, but there you can feel embarrassed by the presence of other students. In one-on-one tutoring, that falls away; I'm just there to answer all your questions. We often find that a difficult question just doesn't work out because a small piece of the basics are missing. If you ask your questions, the puzzle pieces of the material will fall into place faster.

What is your most important tip for final exams?

Start it on time, but don't let yourself get crazy either. You know what kind of questions you're going to get; it's really not that much different from other tests. If you've made it this far, those final exams will work too!

How important do you feel the click with your students is?

Very important. Because it's so important to ask questions, you also have to feel safe enough to do so. That's where that click helps a lot.

Would you recommend working at Studied? And why?

Yes, it's super to help students who are having trouble with school! Besides, you're back working on the material you did yourself a few years ago. That feels nostalgic.
