Learning disability due to corona and still working towards final exams with motivation!
Ties is 19 years old and has just finished his final exams. It came a long way: during the pandemic, he built up a backlog that caused problems especially in chemistry. How did tutoring help him prepare well for the exams? You can read that and more in this blog.
Who are you and what do you do in daily life?
My name is Ties and I am now 19 years old. This school year, which has hopefully now definitively come to an end for me, I attended atheneum in Maastricht. I also play field hockey and work, so my priorities were often not quite at school....
Why did you seek help? What was your goal of counseling at Studied?
Partly because of the pandemic, my school year has now been interrupted for 3 years with online classes, no school, test weeks that did not go ahead and so on. Now school was already not exactly my favorite activity but because of this I became very disengaged in learning and keeping up with it. I think you can already see the result: I fell behind in certain subjects, chemistry being the biggest culprit for me. Through guidance from Studied I wanted to try to close this gap and get myself back on the right level with the big goal of passing my final exams.
What was the approach to your counseling? Did it help you achieve your goal?
My guidance consisted of tutoring for chemistry, the other subjects I was able to brush up well on my own and here I saw no need to seek extra help for. I received structural tutoring and repeated theory for each subject and did the corresponding sums. As the final exam approached, we focused more and more on practicing final exam questions and also practicing a lot extra at home. I don't know yet if I passed, we won't know for over a week, but I can say for sure that I benefited a lot from all the tutoring I received.
In what ways did you experience counseling as personal?
I definitely experienced this as personal, there was a very clear and thorough look at what I needed to start changing in my learning pattern and after each test moment there was a meeting where we evaluated how everything went and where areas for improvement lay.
Whatlesson or event did you remember most from the counseling?
One of the last lessons, in this I began to feel a little more confident and became more confident for the exam.
How important is the click with your tutoring teacher to you?
Very important, you have to feel comfortable and "enjoy" going to tutoring, fortunately I had no problems in this regard. It clicked well and we could discuss other fun things besides topics from school beforehand.
Do you find your supervision compatible with other pursuits?
Definitely. I often had a tutoring session that fit well with my schedule from school and in addition, the times were very flexible. Had no trouble combining despite my many occupations besides school.
What are your plans for after your counseling with Studied (school year, study, work, other)?
I am going to Amsterdam after the summer and study health sciences there.
What will you take away from your guidance at Studied in the remainder of your career?
Learning to plan many activities in addition to a lot of school work. As well as certain learning techniques to absorb and process the material as efficiently as possible.
Would you recommend Studied and why?
Absolutely, there is a good look at an appropriate match between student and teacher and in addition, the help you get is of a certain level.
