Dealing with stress before your test week

Test or exam weeks, who doesn't love them. Personally, I experience these weeks as an oasis of calm. I know that many pupils and students do not share this experience with me. For example, it only causes most students and pupils stress. Let me tell you how to deal with that!

Relax your body

Test weeks stress me out too, but I don't get dragged into it. Stress is a process in your body that unfortunately I can't explain to you very well. After all, I only had one or two years of biology in high school. What I can tell you about it is that the stress of your test (preparation) stiffens your muscles and causes a feeling of restlessness (or even anxiety). However, you don't have to surrender to this. By relaxing your body, you counteract this process. As a result, your muscles will no longer feel stiff and a general feeling of calm prevails in your body. When I have a test week, I make sure I keep exercising regularly. This keeps my body relaxed!

Your brain also needs energy.

Preparing for tests takes energy. Your brain will use a lot of energy consistently for a long time. Therefore, it is important that you get enough energy. It's all about the right energy, though, so eat healthy. Also be careful not to eat too much or too heavy while studying. This is because the digestive process also takes energy. That may sound exaggerated, but this means less energy is available to your brain. It is not for nothing that you feel tired after eating heavily. Your body needs a break because it is hard at work digesting your food. Therefore, I try to eat healthy but not too much in preparation for my test weeks (and for that matter, the rest of the year as well...).

Ask for help and make lists of difficult material you don't yet understand.

Ask for help!

What creates a lot of stress when studying is not understanding what you need to know. Therefore, I always keep a list of points I don't quite understand. Then I go around asking if people can help me with this. There is always someone who can and wants to explain something to you well and briefly! This gives me peace of mind and ensures that I can still ask questions or get explanations I need. If you don't know who to ask your questions to, you should contact us. Then you can ask them to a Tutor during a tutoring session.

No more appointments.

After all, you have to be consistent with the material and focus on passing the test. That's why I made a deal with myself not to make any more appointments in the two weeks before a test week. This also gives you more flexibility for other things like studying, such as sports, going over questions with fellow students and tutoring. This is why I experience the preparation for a test week as an oasis of calm. These are days filled with focus, self-development, good nutrition and regular exercise. Surely that feels wonderful! I can imagine that you might have trouble making a good schedule and sticking to it. We can help you with that with our homework help. That's no problem at all!
