Learning retarded due to corona and still working towards the final exams motivated!

Ties is 19 years old and has just completed his final exams. This was preceded by a long way: during the pandemic, he built up a backlog that caused problems, especially when it came to chemistry. How did tutoring help him prepare for the exams properly? You can read that and more in this blog.

Who are you and what do you do in daily life?

My name is Ties and I am now 19 years old. This school year, which has hopefully finally come to an end for me, I attended the athenaeum in Maastricht. In addition, I play hockey and work, so my priorities were often not entirely with school...

Why did you seek help? What was your purpose of counseling at Studied?

Partly due to the pandemic, my school year was now interrupted 3 years ago with online lessons, no school, test weeks that were canceled and so on. Well, school wasn't entirely my favorite activity, but this has really made me drop out of the subject matter and keeping track of it. I think you can already see the result coming, namely a huge backlog in certain subjects where chemistry was the biggest culprit for me. Through guidance from Studied, I wanted to try to close this gap and get myself back to the right level with the big goal of passing my final exams.

What was the approach to your guidance? Did you achieve your goal with this?

My guidance consisted of chemistry tutoring, I was able to brush up on the other subjects myself and I saw no need to seek extra help for this. I received structural tutoring and repeated theory for each subject and made the corresponding sums. As the final exam got closer, we started to focus more and more on practicing final exam questions and also practicing a lot more at home. I don't know if I passed yet, that won't be known for over a week, but I can say with certainty that I've benefited a lot from all the tutoring I've received.

How did you experience the guidance as personal?

I certainly experienced this as personal, we looked very clearly and thoroughly at what I needed to change in my learning pattern and after each test moment, a meeting took place where we evaluated how everything went and where there are areas for improvement.

What lesson or event did you remember most of the guidance?

One of the last lessons, where I started to feel more confident and more confident before the exam.

How important do you find the click with your tutor?

Very important, you should feel comfortable and “enjoy” tutoring, luckily I have had no problems in this area. We clicked well and, in addition to school topics, we were also able to discuss other fun things beforehand.

Do you find your guidance easy to combine with other activities?

Definitely. I often had a tutoring session that suited my school schedule and the times were also very flexible. I had no trouble combining despite my many activities besides school.

What are your plans after your supervision with Studied (school year, study, work, other)?

I'm going to Amsterdam after the summer to study health sciences there.

What will you take away from your supervision at Studied in the rest of your career?

Learning to plan many activities in addition to a lot of school work. In addition, certain learning techniques to absorb and process the material as efficiently as possible.

Would you recommend Studied and why?

Absolutely, we look closely at a suitable match between student and teacher and, in addition, the help you receive is at a certain level.
